Ahead of the Ames straw poll this week, 2012 hopefuls have expectedly been spending a lot of time in Iowa. But as a number of GOP candidates attempt to woo Hawkeye voters ahead of the August 13 event, others are avoiding the state altogether this week, leaving many to wonder if the Ames survey actually has any relevant influence on the outcome of the Iowa caucuses in February (or the GOP nomination in general).
