As the Senate weighs whether to give President Barack Obama the authority to continue U.S. military operations in Libya, a new post from ForeignPolicy.com's Robert Zeliger, offers an interesting look at the 'shopping lists' of those fighting to overthrow the Gadhafi regime.
While the US has offered non-military supplies (including 10,000 halal ready meals), with arms in short supply rebel leaders have repeatedly asked for weapons assistance from a number of NATO allies.
With France reportedly dropping arms and ammunition into Libya in early June, here's a look at some of the key items from the rebels' wish list:
- Anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade launchers
- KPV heavy machine guns
- SPG-9 Recoilless rifles
- ZU-23 anti-aircraft artillery guns
- Towed Howitzer
- DShK machine guns
- PK machine guns
- AK-47s
- Helmets
- Boots
- Military fatigues
- Body armor
- Ammunition
- Underwear
- Binoculars
- Food supplies
- Laptops and color cartridges
- and of course, financial support.
