With less than a day to go before the GOP debate in New Hampshire, a new CNN poll reveals that when it comes to candidate qualities Republicans want a winner.
As candidates prepare to face off during the CNN/WMUR/New Hampshire Union Leader event, according to the survey:
Three-quarters of Republicans and GOP leaning independent voters say they want a party nominee who can defeat President Barack Obama in 2012, even if that person doesn't agree with them on every issue. That's up seven percentage points from January.
While Sarah Palin and Rudy Giuliani maintain the highest favorability ratings of both confirmed and prospective candidates in CNN's latest poll, a majority of voters believe that only Mitt Romney or Giuliani could actually beat the President.
A full summary of CNN's latest 2012 survey is available to view here.
I expect it is true in the US as in the UK - no one agrees with equal enthusiasm for every policy advanced by their party or their leader. If the realisation of this is a novelty among the Republicans I fear for their unity and success.
