My inbox is full of congressional statements and releases from 2012 contenders on the death of Osama bin Laden. There seems to be something of a pattern: the opening line says something about what great news this is, and the second line (sometimes one or two sentences, or a clause after the first line) is where the individual says something about how proud he or she is of the military and intelligence communities.
All but the former Baptist minister, Mike Huckabee, that is. Here is a comparison of the second lines in the 2012 hopefuls' statements (full statements can be read at Politico):
Romney: Congratulations to our intelligence community, our military and the president.
Palin: God bless all the brave men and women in our military and our intelligence services who contributed to carrying out the successful mission to bring Bin Laden to justice and who laid the groundwork over the years to make this victory possible.
Pawlenty: In the hours after the 9/11 attacks, President Bush promised that America would bring Osama bin Laden to justice — and we did. I want to congratulate America's armed forces and President Obama for a job well done.
Santorum: I commend all those involved for this historic triumph.
Huckabee: Welcome to hell, bin Laden.
