With April 15th less than a month away and as a number of lawmakers look to simplify the nation's tax codes, Rasmussen Reports's latest poll reveals that nearly half of all Americans find filing their income taxes more stressful than a trip to the dentist:
43% of Adults say filing their tax paperwork is worse than a trip to the dentist. Thirty-five percent (35%) disagree and say going to the dentist is worse. Nearly one-in-four (23%) are not sure which activity is more torturous.
Last April, Americans were almost evenly divided over which was worse—taxes or the dentist.
Currently, according to Rasmussen, only 9% of Americans feel that the US has the "best tax system in the world."
The survey also revealed that:
- Fifty-one percent (51%) of investors say doing their taxes is worse than a visit to the dentist, a view shared by just 34% of non-investors. Government workers tend to view the dentist as worse, while those who work for private companies have the opposite opinion.
- Adults under 30 are more likely to think going to the dentist is worse than doing their taxes, while older adults feel more pain doing their tax paperwork.
- Those who make $60,000 or more a year have a more negative view of doing their taxes than those who earn less.
