Well, it's official. No current elected official is "hotter" than Chris Christie.
The new Quinnipiac poll out today asked respondents how, using a "feeling thermometer" that goes from 0 to 100, they feel about a variety of public figures. The First Lady, Michelle Obama, was atop the list, followed closely by Bill Clinton.
Christie was third, a half a point ahead of President Obama.
Our insiders poll last Friday also had Christie on top. In our case, he led the field of all 2012 GOP hopefuls, even though he has said he won't run. Our respondents assessed individuals not by a feeling thermometer but by 8 attributes.
The Quinnipiac list looks like this:
- Christie is the least known of the top eight spots, which includes John Boehner. If I were the Speaker, I'd be feeling pretty good about this poll.
- The other reform governors are still remarkably unknown, despite a recent boost in some fairly consistent national coverage. Tim Pawlenty, who's been unofficially running for awhile now, still has 67% saying they don't know enough about him, and Mitch Daniels is at 78%.
- Huckabee's numbers are better than one might have thought given his week last week, but when you look at the poll, you see it was conducted week before last. I wonder what his numbers would be this week.
- Take that, Harry Reid and Nancy Pelosi! Not only are they dead last, but they're 8 and 10 points behind Newt Gingrich. That must hurt!
- The survey must have undersampled Sarah Palin's very vigorous base. Or, her very vigorous base must be getting smaller...
