Like most Americans this evening, Republican lawmakers and state leaders across the country will be watching the Pittsburgh Steelers take on the Green Bay Packers. From Cowboys Stadium to US aircraft carriers, here's a quick look at a few GOP picks and plans for Super Bowl XLV:
- Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker and Pennsylvania Governor Tom Corbett will be supporting their home teams from Cowboys Stadium in Arlington.
- From 1600 Pennslyvania Avenue, Senator Pat Toomey will be cheering for the Steelers, with Congressman Reid Ribble supporting Wisconsin.
- Although a Detroit Lions fan, Michigan Governor Rick Snyder said in an interview with WXYZ’s Broadcast House that he is going with the Steelers to win as his sister lived in Pittsburgh for a number of years.
- In support of Green Bay, Senator Ron Johnson said: the Steelers are a worthy opponent, but I’m confident that on Sunday evening, the Packers will bring the Lombardi Trophy back to Green Bay. Go Pack go!” Johnson will be cheering on the Packers live from Cowboys Stadium with RNC chair Reince Priebus and Representative Paul Ryan (photo).
- Representatives Jon Runyan and Mo Brooks will be watching the game with US sailors and Marines aboard the USS George H.W. Bush.
- South Carolina Governor Nikki Haley is hoping for a Green Bay win, posting words of encouragement via Twitter.
- Senator Orrin Hatch says the win will go to Pittsburgh: They’re a tough team. They’ve got a great quarterback. I think Aaron Rodgers is a great quarterback, too. But the Steelers have what it takes defensively to win this game. Plus they have a very very schooled quarterback who’s won two Super Bowls already, so he knows what it’s like to be in there.”
