As House Democrats oppose the tax deal, Rasmussen reports that 56% of Americans support the compromise Obama worked out with Republicans. 70% of Republicans agree with the deal, as do almost half of all Democrats.
Yesterday, Gallup also reported favorable perceptions of the current compromise among its respondents.
Democratic disregard for the public’s preferences on key legislation seems to be a new repeating trend. Last year, in the lead up to the dramatic Christmas Eve vote on health care reform, Rasmussen reported that 55% of Americans opposed the measure as it stood (less than half, 41%, were in favor of the law.)
