A contest between four term Democratic incumbent Tim Bishop and Republican challenger Randy Altshuler for New York's 1st Congressional District, is the last remaining undecided House race.
“The ongoing count of absentee and provisional ballots in the First Congressional District, which began at the Suffolk County Board of Elections last week, ended on Tuesday with Representative Tim Bishop up by 235 votes. This leaves about 70 or more military ballots and 160 unscanned ballots to be counted next week” (The East Hampton Star).
New York State's Supreme Court will next week consider the issue of 2,000 challenged ballots, of which Altshuler’s campaign has questioned 1,261 votes.
If Altshuler is successful, his victory will bring the total of New York Republican Representatives to nine, giving the GOP 64 more seats for the 112th Congress.
