On Memorial Day, we pause to remember the men and women who answered the call to serve and made the ultimate sacrifice so that we may live free. They did so, in the words of FDR’s D-Day prayer, ‘not for the lust of conquest, but to liberate, let justice arise, and tolerance and good will among all thy people.’ The blessings of freedom are fragile, and their preservation depends not only on the sacrifices of our servicemembers, but the vigilance of the citizens they risk all to defend. So I hope all Americans will take time out this weekend to remember the fallen, pray for their families, and thank our warriors for their service to our country.
